In order for a California court to have jurisdiction over your family law concern, you or your spouse must have resided in California for at least six months. In order for a San Diego County family law court to have jurisdiction in family law matters, you or your spouse must have resided in San Diego County for at least three months. Jurisdiction issues can become complicated when one or both parties live in Mexico, in surrounding states or anywhere outside of California.
